So last night while at work I realized something… My sweatpants were on backwards the entire night! That’s right, I’m that awesome and you wish you could pull off this look. This isn’t a trend you will find in any fashion magazines because only the really cool kids can pull it off.

So yeah… Have you every had a “cool” moment like this? Hope your fashion day was less embarrassing than mine! XO, FR

After taking a short break from this topic, it’s time to return to one of my favorite segments, “Trendy Tuesdays.”  Today’s topic is a fun one in my opinion…  College style fun.

I’m not talking about sweatpants and hoodies (although that may be what I spend a good majority of my time in while on campus); I’m talking letterman jackets and other school-inspired looks.  I’ve seen this look in a few different fashion magazines and websites and even while shopping in my local mall, and we aren’t exactly a fashion hotbed around here.

So what exactly does this look entail?  Let’s take a closer look.

One of the big looks I’ve noticed, that I mentioned above, is the letterman jacket.

This is a fun and easy way to incorporate the look into your wardrobe without really having to change or invest in a lot of new pieces.  You can throw it on over anything you already own:  jeans and a t-shirt for a casual look, a flowy dress for a feminine/tomboy look or with mixed prints (as seen above) to really show your fashionista prowess.

You can also skip the jacket and do the preppy, school sweater instead for cooler days.  Again, you can dress it up or dress it down, either way you will be on trend.

Even celebrities are getting in on this look!

Here’s a spiked Lady Gaga version found on retromaniafw.

Rhianna, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are all fans. **

Even Kim K is getting in on the fun.

So what about you?  Are you ready to go back to school or are you too cool for school?

Also, I bought my fur vest over the weekend!!!  I will post pictures in an outfit post soon.

Ok, I know…  worst title ever.  But cut me some slack;  my brain has been on overload lately and I’m proud just to be writing at all.

A couple of days ago I went shopping for a dress I have been in love with for over a month.  Naturally, they didn’t have it.  I have been to two different locations and looked online without any success, but I digress….

I did find something else I loved though and hope to add it to my collection very soon.  Enter the fur vest.

*A cute, inexpensive option from forever 21*

Now because this is from Forever 21, and therefore fits into my budget this is a faux fur vest, which works perfectly for me as I can’t make myself wear real fur.  But regardless of whether you go faux or sport the real thing, this is a look to keep an eye on this season.

This is typically so far removed from my normal style that I was actually shocked by how much I liked it; I guess I’m evolving.

The next day I was reading through the October issue of Lucky Magazine and came across an article with Michael Kors.  He listed the 5 things every woman should have in her wardrobe and right there at #1, was a fur vest.  Actually it was a “coat you can wear anywhere” but he specified that a fur vest is great because “you can wear it inside if you’re chilly or outside over a slim coat”.  I feel like it might be fate telling me to run and purchase said vest this weekend.

So how do you wear a fur vest?  Here are some images I found while doing a little research.

* Here is a take on the “over a slim coat” look found on Apparel Therapy*

*And here is a bit of a casual take on the fur vest.  Found at Babble*

*And finally a more formal look, very Breakfast at tiffany’s.  Found at Ali Express*

And here is an idea for how I hope to style my own fur vest once it is safely in my possession.

This is a very luxe take on how I would actually be able to afford to wear this look.  But I love the look of light neutrals paired with gold jewelry and minimal makeup and hair.  It’s clean yet classic, simple yet chic.
So tell me, will you don fur?  Do you prefer faux or the real deal?  Do tell!

Not much to talk about today but I did come up with a new feature I am planning on doing on Tuesdays.  I am going to focus on a new season trend each week and talk about how you can wear it, places you can find it and whether or not I will be trying said trend.

Keep an eye out for it starting next Tuesday!

Happy Weekend Guys and Dolls!

Today I thought I would take a step back from fashion blogging and just put some of the random thoughts I’ve been having lately.  If you are not a fan of random, I apologize for this post.  If you do enjoy randomness…  Enjoy!

– I wrote a bucket list a few months ago and think I am going to post it on here.  I feel that if I put the list down on “paper” and post it where others can see it, it might just inspire me actually work on completing things on the list rather than just say “one day I hope to…  blah. blah. blah.”  I don’t want to look back and say, “I wish” about any aspect of my life.  Fingers crossed.

– A few days ago I wrote about the “day that should be forever erased from memory.”  Short story:  I was running late to class, found the first parking spot & lot, parked and ran into class.  When I came out of class, I discovered that it wasn’t the best parking spot.  I was blocked in and couldn’t leave until the people around me left.  It’s a big-ish campus with a lot of students, meaning I have no idea how long I will be stuck.  It was hot out, I was tired and hungry and just wanted to run home before my next class.  I sat there for an hour before my guardian angel walked by and helped me out by moving a fence…  After laughing chuckling at me first.  If I wasn’t in such a hurry to get out of there I may have made out with him.

– Okay, I lied here is a fashion thought.  I really hope to challenge myself this season.  I want to find one fashion trend that scares the bajeezus out of me (ie:  colored denim, bright graphics or a bright red lip) and try it out.  Maybe see if I actually like some things outside of my comfort zone.  So I need to spend some time researching trends for this fall and see what scares me most 🙂

– When I started this semester of school I had 18 credits.  Before my first class, I decided to drop a yoga class and went down to 17 credits.  After my first week of class I dropped chemistry until a later semester.  I still have 13 credits and am considered a full time student.  I still have plenty of hard courses to keep me busy (statistics, anatomy, developmental psychology, strength & conditioning) but “only” having 13 credits kind of makes me feel like a bum.  I am also working full time…  But I still feel a little lame.

– Hockey is starting up in less than a month!  Yes, the NHL is still in talks and may be locked out for a season (hopefully less) but I am an ECHL fan and our first pre-season game is Oct. 5th.  It’s so close I can almost smell the ice and I’m stoked!  Go Cyclones!

– I am starting the equally exciting and terrifying search for an apartment.  Whenever I find a place, it will be my first solo living situation.  In my 25 years of life, I have always lived with one of my parents.  It is so exciting to be able to think about being on my own, but also  super scary knowing that I will be on my own.  I have a call in to a place that is right across the street from school and I’m really, really hoping it works out, keep your fingers crossed for me?

– Finding a church is hard work!  I found a place I loved when I moved to Idaho right away.  I thought when I moved back here I would just go back to where I grew up.  It didn’t quite work out that way and now I’m trying to find my new “home” but it is so much harder than I ever thought it would be.

I think that’s all the random-ness I will dish out on you guys at this time.  I have more but I don’t want to lose any followers!  I will save those for a different random posting.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Before I get into the topic I want to cover today, a couple of housekeeping items.

– I will be trying to blog on a regular schedule; however, I just started a new semester at school and am only 3 days in and already so overwhelmed.  I don’t have much time to sleep and am so busy I have to literally plan out when to shower or eat a quick meal.  It’s insane but I am hoping I get it all figured out soon!

– I have decided to continue to blog about fashions but I am also going to use this blog for everything else that comes up:  sporting events, music or movies, school drama and any other insignificant huge item that comes up in my life.  Hopefully you will stick around while this branches out into the new directions.

Now onto the reason for this post.  I think I have “discovered” my first fall trend for 2012.  Now stick with me, this may have already been discovered by you and everyone else months ago but I don’t usually notice these types of things (hence the “rookie” in my blog name).  The other day I requested a J. Crew catalog.  I haven’t looked through one of their catalogs before and am typically not the “prepster” type of person but I had heard some great things about them and lately had been seeing other postings and liking what I saw.

Well, I got the catalog yesterday and I am in LOVE!  I think I could easily add a little prep to my wardrobe.  Pretty sure I would like one of everything.  Anyone reading this that wants to send items my way, I will accept with open arms 🙂  This catalog has 71 pages and of those 71, 14 of the pages feature some type of polka dot item.  I don’t usually do the polka dot look but I am liking the way J. Crew does it and may just have to invest in a few dotted pieces.

A couple other trends that I noticed throughout the catalog were stripes and bright primary colors (think oranges, reds, blues, greens and yellows).  Overall it looks like the fall looks are brighter and more fun than I have seen in the past.  Say goodbye to the dreary blah fall colors and hello to bright, polka dot fun!

Which fall trends are you most looking forward to?
