Hair.  It’s something that I have a very bittersweet relationship with.  On certain days I love my hair!  It’s shiny and laying just right.  Most days however, we aren’t exactly on the same page.  I cut it all off a little over a year ago and am now at that awkward stage where I can’t seem to do anything with it.  I have layers and so I can’t really braid my hair yet because halfway down hair starts sticking out all over.  My hair is too heavy and usually doesn’t hold a curl.  So I almost always straighten it and then end up throwing it into a ponytail.  I have considered getting extensions but then consider how much that would cost and think of how much I could do with that money instead and just stick with my own hair.  I have to keep reminding myself that my hair is growing, it’s not stuck and soon it will be at a good length.  What do you do when your hair is driving you nuts?  What are some tips I can do or hairstyles I can try?

You can tell from the pictures below my hair is growing (I also seem to wear a lot of blue) I just wish it would grow faster!

Have a beautiful hairday!

My hair cut right after cutting it about a year and a half ago.

My hair a month ago. Not the best quality picture, but you get it.

Today is Tuesday which means it’s time for another Trendy Tuesday feature!  Today’s trend is one that I’m not sure I can follow but would love to try.  Graphic prints on pants.  I’m seeing these everywhere but I don’t know that’s it is one I can manage.  My hips and thighs aren’t exactly my favorite body parts and pants with highly visible graphics that draw the eye to those exact parts isn’t typically what I go for.  But, let’s focus on these nonetheless.  A lot of the common designs that I have seen are floral patterns.  But there are also polka dots, animal print and other swirly designs.

Now if I were to try this trend, I found a pair at Target that I think I would be able to handle.

Snake Print Denim from Target.com

Yes, it is basically a black pair of denim with a slight gray snake print design.  Baby steps, people.  Baby steps.

Do you like printed denim?  Was it something you jumped into all the way or did you just dip a toe in the shallow end?

Happy Trending!

Ok.  We all know that’s not true.  If I had too much time on my hands, I would actually blog every once in a while.  Instead, I abandon my blog because I would rather sleep when I’m not working 40+ hours a week or in school 5 days a week.  But I liked the title and thought it fit with what I want to say.  The time change…  I (like most people) love and adore the fact that I now get an extra hour of sleep each day.  This past weekend I got to spend an extra hour out on the town with friends because of the time change and had a great time!  However, the not fun part…  Changing my clocks.  What a pain in the butt!

My cellphone and TV automatically change.  I had to change the clock next to my bed and in my car manually.  No big deal, right?  Well.  I’m a self-professed watch addict.  I have yet to see a watch I don’t love and when that happens I like to purchase them.  So now for the difficult part.  I have to now change all of these to the new time for the next 6 months before I have to change them all back.

Issues as a watch-addict

Do you have problems with the time change too or is it easier for you to adapt than me?

Come back tomorrow for another Trendy Tuesday!  That’s right, I’m planning on blogging two days in a row!!

After taking a short break from this topic, it’s time to return to one of my favorite segments, “Trendy Tuesdays.”  Today’s topic is a fun one in my opinion…  College style fun.

I’m not talking about sweatpants and hoodies (although that may be what I spend a good majority of my time in while on campus); I’m talking letterman jackets and other school-inspired looks.  I’ve seen this look in a few different fashion magazines and websites and even while shopping in my local mall, and we aren’t exactly a fashion hotbed around here.

So what exactly does this look entail?  Let’s take a closer look.

One of the big looks I’ve noticed, that I mentioned above, is the letterman jacket.

This is a fun and easy way to incorporate the look into your wardrobe without really having to change or invest in a lot of new pieces.  You can throw it on over anything you already own:  jeans and a t-shirt for a casual look, a flowy dress for a feminine/tomboy look or with mixed prints (as seen above) to really show your fashionista prowess.

You can also skip the jacket and do the preppy, school sweater instead for cooler days.  Again, you can dress it up or dress it down, either way you will be on trend.

Even celebrities are getting in on this look!

Here’s a spiked Lady Gaga version found on retromaniafw.

Rhianna, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are all fans. *celebstyle.com*

Even Kim K is getting in on the fun.

So what about you?  Are you ready to go back to school or are you too cool for school?

Also, I bought my fur vest over the weekend!!!  I will post pictures in an outfit post soon.

Welcome to the first installment of what I like to call Trendy Tuesdays.  Each Tuesday we will look at a trend for the current season.  We can discuss the trend, whether or not we like it and how to get the look at different price points since we aren’t all millionaires (shocking, I know!!).

Our first trend is the “high low skirt.”  I first saw this while shopping a couple of weekends ago and since then have been noticing it more and more every where I look, which led me to the assumption that this must be what the cool kids call a trend.

*Via Pinterest*

I personally LOVE this look!  I think skirts are a comfortable, yet still classy way to spend a casual afternoon.  It’s just as easy to pull off as a pair of jeans yet the style factor has been upped 1000%.  Now having a swayback, I can’t always wear skirts easily.  If the length is good in the front, it is always shorter in the back and that can cause problems.  With this skirt, problem solved!!  This is definitely a trend I will be trying this season.

So where can we find this look at the different price points?  Well, if you are rolling in the dough and looking for new things to spend money on here is this skirt that I found on Net-A-Porter.  This is the Skaist-Taylor Lydon dipped-hem silk-voile skirt and it can be yours for only $670.  Steal right??

Ok, now for the rest of you out there that don’t have the spare funds to drop two car payments pocket change on a skirt, there are some cheaper options out there that are still just as cute…  FYI:  These are the ones that I will be shopping at.

Just as cute, right??  And at only $15.80 you can get an entire outfit and still have money left for a weekend getaway to equal the amount of the other skirt.

Is this a trend that you are going to get behind?  If so, which one do you prefer; to spend some extra money for higher quality or to save some money on a less expensive option?

Extra:

  • If there are any other trends you would like me to cover let me know.  Either leave me a comment or email me:  fashionistarookie@gmail.com.
  • I am loving knee high boots and am wanting a pair in my closet ASAP!  However, I have calves that makes boots a bit difficult to get on (thank you, ballet).  Anyone have any tips on where I could find some boots that might fit?
  • And finally.  I am in the process of putting together an exciting giveaway and will keep you updated once I have all the details in place.  Keep an eye out for that!

Hope you all have a great week!

Not much to talk about today but I did come up with a new feature I am planning on doing on Tuesdays.  I am going to focus on a new season trend each week and talk about how you can wear it, places you can find it and whether or not I will be trying said trend.

Keep an eye out for it starting next Tuesday!

…  To be on time for once!!  Geeze, I missed What I Want Wednesday again.  But in my defense, my baby brother was performing in his very first stand up comedy show yesterday so I was busy all day getting things done so I could go and watch him.

So I’m a little late.  It doesn’t change the fact that I do still want every single one of these items.  I found them all while shopping this past weekend.  I almost purchased everything I am about to post here, but decided to hold back and wait a few days before buying everything.

Without further ado…

I want this skirt.  I will have to try it on because I have never worn a mini skirt before and the thought is really intimidating.  Who knows, maybe I will put this skirt on and absolutely hate it, but when I see it laying on the display in store, I LOVE it!

I also want this top.  I was very, very close to buying this over the weekend.  It was on the clearance $5 rack but I had a sneaky feeling it wasn’t supposed to be.  So before standing in line forever and then finding out it wasn’t on sale, I asked an employee if they could check.  It wasn’t, I put it back to buy at a later date and have not stopped thinking of it since.

This was the original blazer that I saw in the store.  I thought it was super cute and that it would look great over a light, summery dress for brunch or another fun moment like that.  After looking at it more on the website though I’m not sure.  This would be another one I have to try on; I don’t usually like cropped tops on myself.  I do definitely want a blazer though…  Maybe I could do this one instead.

The final item I am wanting today is a pair of fabulous red sunglasses from Fossil.  I can’t find any pictures of them online, so I guess that is even more reason to just buy them, so I can show you all how cute they are.  (Sunglasses are almost as bad an obsession as watches for me…  Speaking of watches, I found a watch I want too!)

Because the Charlotte Russe website isn’t allowing me to post the pictures of the items like I wanted, I posted links instead…  But because Polyvore is awesome, I’m able to create a look involving all of the above mentioned pieces.

A couple housekeeping tidbits before I go.  I am planning on doing an update to the blog this weekend, so keep an eye out for that as well as my thoughts on the latest episode of Project Runway.
Also, we are only 5 followers away from a giveaway!  So keep an eye out for that as well, hopefully there will be news on that very soon.

I, like most of the world, watched the Opening Ceremonies tonight for the 2012 Summer Olympics.  This is an event I look forward to like most kids look forward to Christmas.  I don’t know what it is, but there is something special and almost magical about this time of year for me.  I hope to one day experience it all in person.  I don’t know if it is from writing this blog or some other reason, but I found myself focused on the fashions from each country while they marched around the stadium.  Some of the outfits were more costumey than others but some were clothing styles that I actually enjoyed.  Below I have added some of my best and most interesting looks from the evening.

Image

I thought Australia looked very snazzy in the green blazers and white pants.  Not a huge fan of the women’s skirts; I feel they look like flight attendants and not world class athletes, but the men looked quite good in my opinion.

Image

The USA was another group that I thought looked really good.  Same concept as the Australian team but the jackets seem a little more formal.  The women’s skirts have a cuter design and flow to them though and don’t seem as stiff as Australia’s.  I could have done without the hats.

Image

I really enjoyed the look of the home country, Great Britain.  The warm ups looked great and the athletes seemed comfortable and happy while wearing them.  I love the white with gold trim, I think it just looks so clean and fresh.

I also liked the outfits worn by the Serbian team, but have been unable to find pictures of them.  If I find any in the next few days I will post a picture.

Now for the outfits that I didn’t quite enjoy…

Image

Don’t get me wrong, this is a cute look…  for young children.  There’s just something about a group of adults wearing this that makes it seem odd.  I told my friend that they all look straight out of “Blues Clues” (for those of you that don’t know what that is, it’s a TV show for young kids with a guy and his cartoon dog, Blue).

Image

Do we see the resemblance?

Again, there were other teams that I didn’t quite love their outfits but they were smaller countries and I haven’t been able to find pictures online as of yet.  I was also quite interested to see what Princess Kate wore, but wasn’t able to get a good shot of it during the ceremonies, I will have to look that up as well.

I found a “best and worst dressed” article from the Opening Ceremonies and for the most part, I totally agree with the author.  As you can see, we disagree over a couple countries but everyone has their own opinion, right?  I completely forgot about their number 1 best dressed country though and I have to say, I totally agree!!  Check it out and see for yourself :  Best and Worst Dressed

Did you watch the Opening Ceremonies?  Were there any particular styles that stuck out to you?

Hi All,

As I am reading through a lot of other blogs I have noticed (and enjoyed) the giveaways that many of them host and decided that it is something I would like to do.  I will do it after I hit some kind of milestone (either time period or number of followers) but wanted to know what kind of items you enjoy and what would make you register for a giveaway?  Also, if you have sponsored a giveaway in the past do you purchase the items yourself or do you pair up with a company/other blogger for the item?

You can either respond in the comments section or send me an email at fashionistarookie@gmail.com.  Thanks so much for all of your help, I really appreciate it!
