Since I’ve been a bit MIA lately, I thought I would do a quick update about what’s been going on in my life recently.

1.  I’m now the proud owner of a pair of shiny adult braces…  Okay, I have a clear set so no shine but still.  Nothing says sexy like a mouth full of metal.  I’ve had them for a full two weeks now and I feel like I’m still getting used to them.  I was in pain for the first week and on a mostly liquids diet (and only manged to lose three pounds…  What the hell??!!).  I’m no longer in pain, but am still slow getting into foods I used to eat and constantly feel like there is too much going on in my mouth.  Only 102 more weeks to go!

2.  I start school in 17 days.  After going back and forth multiple times about whether or not I wanted to go back, I decided to go ahead, bite the bullet and do it.  I don’t really like my college (at all) and am still unsure as to what I want to be when I grow up…  Actually I know I want to be Donna (from the show Suits) when I grow up, but not sure what kind of major I need for that.  Here’s hoping school gets better and I can enjoy myself.

3.  Because I’m sticking with school I decided to stick with my job.  I try not to speak too openly about my feelings towards my job for a couple of reasons A)  I try to be grateful I have one in this economy and B) if anyone from my job were to read/hear my feelings, I would hate to risk losing said job.  However, I’m incredibly unhappy at this job.  There is a total lack of communication, no one that works there enjoys it, we are constantly working overtime and having our schedules changed at the last minute, oh and I break out in hives on a weekly (sometimes more often) basis thanks to this job.  Pretty sure that’s not a normal reaction.  But because it is third shift (another reason I dislike said job) it makes scheduling classes easier…  Attending not so much, but scheduling, yes.

4.  I’ve recently been shopping…  Like, a lot.  Maybe too much?  I keep telling myself I’m just preparing for fall and getting my wardrobe in order.  And I do make sure bills are paid first but I’m trying to do more adult things.  Things such as get a legitimate savings account going, not just $30 that I keep moving into my checking account.  Making a budget (and sticking to it).  And the big one, attempt to save for my own place.  I’m not talking buy a house, I’m nowhere near that, but a cute little apartment of my own would be beyond an amazing blessing.  Right now, I can’t so much afford that.  But I’m working towards it.  One step at a time.

I do believe that’s the majority of the updates from me.  Pretty sad that I’ve been gone so long and that’s it…  Hopefully my life picks up along with my school schedule in a few weeks.

Enjoy your weekend!  Go out and have a cold brewski 🙂

I’m hoping to watch the Victoria Secret fashion show tonight sometime, I have to do a lot of studying for my final exams on Monday though to that may not happen on the exact timeline I would like, but I will still get to it.

I’m writing right now because there are some changes that I would like to incorporate to this blog.  Yes, I will still talk about fashion, beauty and shoes because I still love these things and they are a huge part of my life.  But I would also like to add some more lifestyle to my blog.  What did I do today?  The pictures from the trip to the park.  DIY crafty items I try (emphasis on the word try).  My attempts at actually completing Pinterest items I have pinned.

So yes, there will still be fashion pieces on here, but I’m going to evolve the blog as well.  I hope you stick around to see where this blog goes and enjoy the ride with me!

So last night while at work I realized something… My sweatpants were on backwards the entire night! That’s right, I’m that awesome and you wish you could pull off this look. This isn’t a trend you will find in any fashion magazines because only the really cool kids can pull it off.

So yeah… Have you every had a “cool” moment like this? Hope your fashion day was less embarrassing than mine! XO, FR

Today is Tuesday which means it’s time for another Trendy Tuesday feature!  Today’s trend is one that I’m not sure I can follow but would love to try.  Graphic prints on pants.  I’m seeing these everywhere but I don’t know that’s it is one I can manage.  My hips and thighs aren’t exactly my favorite body parts and pants with highly visible graphics that draw the eye to those exact parts isn’t typically what I go for.  But, let’s focus on these nonetheless.  A lot of the common designs that I have seen are floral patterns.  But there are also polka dots, animal print and other swirly designs.

Now if I were to try this trend, I found a pair at Target that I think I would be able to handle.

Snake Print Denim from Target.com

Yes, it is basically a black pair of denim with a slight gray snake print design.  Baby steps, people.  Baby steps.

Do you like printed denim?  Was it something you jumped into all the way or did you just dip a toe in the shallow end?

Happy Trending!

Ok.  We all know that’s not true.  If I had too much time on my hands, I would actually blog every once in a while.  Instead, I abandon my blog because I would rather sleep when I’m not working 40+ hours a week or in school 5 days a week.  But I liked the title and thought it fit with what I want to say.  The time change…  I (like most people) love and adore the fact that I now get an extra hour of sleep each day.  This past weekend I got to spend an extra hour out on the town with friends because of the time change and had a great time!  However, the not fun part…  Changing my clocks.  What a pain in the butt!

My cellphone and TV automatically change.  I had to change the clock next to my bed and in my car manually.  No big deal, right?  Well.  I’m a self-professed watch addict.  I have yet to see a watch I don’t love and when that happens I like to purchase them.  So now for the difficult part.  I have to now change all of these to the new time for the next 6 months before I have to change them all back.

Issues as a watch-addict

Do you have problems with the time change too or is it easier for you to adapt than me?

Come back tomorrow for another Trendy Tuesday!  That’s right, I’m planning on blogging two days in a row!!

If you are like me (and most fashion bloggers) you probably enjoy a good shopping spree. I know spending the day at the mall and coming home with bags is a great way to spend an afternoon in my opinion but if I can support a good cause while I’m at it, that makes it that much more enjoyable! And this is a great month to do it. Yes, the month is just about over so get to shopping!!

Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably know that October is breast cancer awareness month. Whether you watch sports and see the NFL players sporting pink equipment, Dancing with the Stars and hear Tony Dovolani talk about wearing pink in honor of this month, or just walk through a grocery store with a very pink display in the middle of the aisle, you have probably seen the pink display in honor of this month.

So what are some of the things you can get that go towards breast cancer research? One of my favorite beauty stores, Ulta, has a ton of specials going on right now. When you check out, you can donate and get things back with your purchase. With a $1 donation, you are entered to win a beauty bag. Give $5 and receive a pink water tumbler or a fashion tote. $10 and you can get a pink kisses umbrella! For more information about the Ulta “donate with a kiss” program, head here.

Do you like jewelry? Stella & Dot is currently hosting a sale with all net proceeds going to fight for a cure. There are five items (two are currently sold out though) and all of them are absolutely adorable!! I especially love the Hope bracelet, below. Are you interested in checking out the items they have? Go here and see for yourself.

There are really so many places that you can find to shop for a cure, either in your local town or online. I did a quick google search for “shopping for a cause, october” and it came back with pages and pages of companies and products that all give back to the cause. So if you want to do a little guilt-free shopping and put some good karma out there, get to shopping. You only have a few days left!

After taking a short break from this topic, it’s time to return to one of my favorite segments, “Trendy Tuesdays.”  Today’s topic is a fun one in my opinion…  College style fun.

I’m not talking about sweatpants and hoodies (although that may be what I spend a good majority of my time in while on campus); I’m talking letterman jackets and other school-inspired looks.  I’ve seen this look in a few different fashion magazines and websites and even while shopping in my local mall, and we aren’t exactly a fashion hotbed around here.

So what exactly does this look entail?  Let’s take a closer look.

One of the big looks I’ve noticed, that I mentioned above, is the letterman jacket.

This is a fun and easy way to incorporate the look into your wardrobe without really having to change or invest in a lot of new pieces.  You can throw it on over anything you already own:  jeans and a t-shirt for a casual look, a flowy dress for a feminine/tomboy look or with mixed prints (as seen above) to really show your fashionista prowess.

You can also skip the jacket and do the preppy, school sweater instead for cooler days.  Again, you can dress it up or dress it down, either way you will be on trend.

Even celebrities are getting in on this look!

Here’s a spiked Lady Gaga version found on retromaniafw.

Rhianna, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are all fans. *celebstyle.com*

Even Kim K is getting in on the fun.

So what about you?  Are you ready to go back to school or are you too cool for school?

Also, I bought my fur vest over the weekend!!!  I will post pictures in an outfit post soon.

Ok, I know…  worst title ever.  But cut me some slack;  my brain has been on overload lately and I’m proud just to be writing at all.

A couple of days ago I went shopping for a dress I have been in love with for over a month.  Naturally, they didn’t have it.  I have been to two different locations and looked online without any success, but I digress….

I did find something else I loved though and hope to add it to my collection very soon.  Enter the fur vest.

*A cute, inexpensive option from forever 21*

Now because this is from Forever 21, and therefore fits into my budget this is a faux fur vest, which works perfectly for me as I can’t make myself wear real fur.  But regardless of whether you go faux or sport the real thing, this is a look to keep an eye on this season.

This is typically so far removed from my normal style that I was actually shocked by how much I liked it; I guess I’m evolving.

The next day I was reading through the October issue of Lucky Magazine and came across an article with Michael Kors.  He listed the 5 things every woman should have in her wardrobe and right there at #1, was a fur vest.  Actually it was a “coat you can wear anywhere” but he specified that a fur vest is great because “you can wear it inside if you’re chilly or outside over a slim coat”.  I feel like it might be fate telling me to run and purchase said vest this weekend.

So how do you wear a fur vest?  Here are some images I found while doing a little research.

* Here is a take on the “over a slim coat” look found on Apparel Therapy*

*And here is a bit of a casual take on the fur vest.  Found at Babble*

*And finally a more formal look, very Breakfast at tiffany’s.  Found at Ali Express*

And here is an idea for how I hope to style my own fur vest once it is safely in my possession.

This is a very luxe take on how I would actually be able to afford to wear this look.  But I love the look of light neutrals paired with gold jewelry and minimal makeup and hair.  It’s clean yet classic, simple yet chic.
So tell me, will you don fur?  Do you prefer faux or the real deal?  Do tell!

Welcome to the first installment of what I like to call Trendy Tuesdays.  Each Tuesday we will look at a trend for the current season.  We can discuss the trend, whether or not we like it and how to get the look at different price points since we aren’t all millionaires (shocking, I know!!).

Our first trend is the “high low skirt.”  I first saw this while shopping a couple of weekends ago and since then have been noticing it more and more every where I look, which led me to the assumption that this must be what the cool kids call a trend.

*Via Pinterest*

I personally LOVE this look!  I think skirts are a comfortable, yet still classy way to spend a casual afternoon.  It’s just as easy to pull off as a pair of jeans yet the style factor has been upped 1000%.  Now having a swayback, I can’t always wear skirts easily.  If the length is good in the front, it is always shorter in the back and that can cause problems.  With this skirt, problem solved!!  This is definitely a trend I will be trying this season.

So where can we find this look at the different price points?  Well, if you are rolling in the dough and looking for new things to spend money on here is this skirt that I found on Net-A-Porter.  This is the Skaist-Taylor Lydon dipped-hem silk-voile skirt and it can be yours for only $670.  Steal right??

*via bing*

Ok, now for the rest of you out there that don’t have the spare funds to drop two car payments pocket change on a skirt, there are some cheaper options out there that are still just as cute…  FYI:  These are the ones that I will be shopping at.

*Via:  Forever 21*

Just as cute, right??  And at only $15.80 you can get an entire outfit and still have money left for a weekend getaway to equal the amount of the other skirt.

Is this a trend that you are going to get behind?  If so, which one do you prefer; to spend some extra money for higher quality or to save some money on a less expensive option?

Extra:

  • If there are any other trends you would like me to cover let me know.  Either leave me a comment or email me:  fashionistarookie@gmail.com.
  • I am loving knee high boots and am wanting a pair in my closet ASAP!  However, I have calves that makes boots a bit difficult to get on (thank you, ballet).  Anyone have any tips on where I could find some boots that might fit?
  • And finally.  I am in the process of putting together an exciting giveaway and will keep you updated once I have all the details in place.  Keep an eye out for that!

Hope you all have a great week!

As you may know from earlier posts, I spent yesterday at the Ohio State University football game.  The game was so much fun and topped off with a Buckeyes win!

The sun was shining (my face is now a bit tender from sunburn) through the entire game.  After the game, we got caught in some rain during the 765 mile walk back to the car and the wind was whipping us around like rag dolls.  Other than that I had a great time and I totally felt dressed for the event.  I didn’t get any pictures of me actually wearing my look; but here’s the look that I did wear.

Red Pants – Target, White tee – Target, Sweater – Forever 21, Gold Watch – NY&Co, Bracelet – Etsy, sandals – wal-mart, earrings and sunglasses – ??  I can’t remember for the life of me 🙂

I had a great time and can’t wait to go back!  What did you do this weekend?
