Since I’ve been a bit MIA lately, I thought I would do a quick update about what’s been going on in my life recently.

1.  I’m now the proud owner of a pair of shiny adult braces…  Okay, I have a clear set so no shine but still.  Nothing says sexy like a mouth full of metal.  I’ve had them for a full two weeks now and I feel like I’m still getting used to them.  I was in pain for the first week and on a mostly liquids diet (and only manged to lose three pounds…  What the hell??!!).  I’m no longer in pain, but am still slow getting into foods I used to eat and constantly feel like there is too much going on in my mouth.  Only 102 more weeks to go!

2.  I start school in 17 days.  After going back and forth multiple times about whether or not I wanted to go back, I decided to go ahead, bite the bullet and do it.  I don’t really like my college (at all) and am still unsure as to what I want to be when I grow up…  Actually I know I want to be Donna (from the show Suits) when I grow up, but not sure what kind of major I need for that.  Here’s hoping school gets better and I can enjoy myself.

3.  Because I’m sticking with school I decided to stick with my job.  I try not to speak too openly about my feelings towards my job for a couple of reasons A)  I try to be grateful I have one in this economy and B) if anyone from my job were to read/hear my feelings, I would hate to risk losing said job.  However, I’m incredibly unhappy at this job.  There is a total lack of communication, no one that works there enjoys it, we are constantly working overtime and having our schedules changed at the last minute, oh and I break out in hives on a weekly (sometimes more often) basis thanks to this job.  Pretty sure that’s not a normal reaction.  But because it is third shift (another reason I dislike said job) it makes scheduling classes easier…  Attending not so much, but scheduling, yes.

4.  I’ve recently been shopping…  Like, a lot.  Maybe too much?  I keep telling myself I’m just preparing for fall and getting my wardrobe in order.  And I do make sure bills are paid first but I’m trying to do more adult things.  Things such as get a legitimate savings account going, not just $30 that I keep moving into my checking account.  Making a budget (and sticking to it).  And the big one, attempt to save for my own place.  I’m not talking buy a house, I’m nowhere near that, but a cute little apartment of my own would be beyond an amazing blessing.  Right now, I can’t so much afford that.  But I’m working towards it.  One step at a time.

I do believe that’s the majority of the updates from me.  Pretty sad that I’ve been gone so long and that’s it…  Hopefully my life picks up along with my school schedule in a few weeks.

Enjoy your weekend!  Go out and have a cold brewski 🙂

Welcome to the first installment of what I like to call Trendy Tuesdays.  Each Tuesday we will look at a trend for the current season.  We can discuss the trend, whether or not we like it and how to get the look at different price points since we aren’t all millionaires (shocking, I know!!).

Our first trend is the “high low skirt.”  I first saw this while shopping a couple of weekends ago and since then have been noticing it more and more every where I look, which led me to the assumption that this must be what the cool kids call a trend.

*Via Pinterest*

I personally LOVE this look!  I think skirts are a comfortable, yet still classy way to spend a casual afternoon.  It’s just as easy to pull off as a pair of jeans yet the style factor has been upped 1000%.  Now having a swayback, I can’t always wear skirts easily.  If the length is good in the front, it is always shorter in the back and that can cause problems.  With this skirt, problem solved!!  This is definitely a trend I will be trying this season.

So where can we find this look at the different price points?  Well, if you are rolling in the dough and looking for new things to spend money on here is this skirt that I found on Net-A-Porter.  This is the Skaist-Taylor Lydon dipped-hem silk-voile skirt and it can be yours for only $670.  Steal right??

Ok, now for the rest of you out there that don’t have the spare funds to drop two car payments pocket change on a skirt, there are some cheaper options out there that are still just as cute…  FYI:  These are the ones that I will be shopping at.

Just as cute, right??  And at only $15.80 you can get an entire outfit and still have money left for a weekend getaway to equal the amount of the other skirt.

Is this a trend that you are going to get behind?  If so, which one do you prefer; to spend some extra money for higher quality or to save some money on a less expensive option?

Extra:

  • If there are any other trends you would like me to cover let me know.  Either leave me a comment or email me:  fashionistarookie@gmail.com.
  • I am loving knee high boots and am wanting a pair in my closet ASAP!  However, I have calves that makes boots a bit difficult to get on (thank you, ballet).  Anyone have any tips on where I could find some boots that might fit?
  • And finally.  I am in the process of putting together an exciting giveaway and will keep you updated once I have all the details in place.  Keep an eye out for that!

Hope you all have a great week!

You’ve heard the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” yes?  Well this post has nothing to do with doctors.  But if I needed to have an apple a day, I would love to be able to choose from these apples:  Shabby Apple.  The clothes on this site are beautiful and I would happily indulge in one a day for my overall health.  I feel like the clothes offered here are all vintage-y with a modern twist.

If you haven’t checked out this site and what they have to offer, you totally should!  They offer everything from tops and skirts to dresses and swimwear and even have a maternity line.  They also offer accessories that include shoes, jewelry, bags, aprons and more.  Plus they have a section for the home meaning you can take the Shabby Apple look you love so much and apply it to your surroundings as well as your clothing.  They also offer style advice, call in customer service, free shipping on all returns and a “dress for your body type” link to know what will flatter your body most.

I love just about all of the items offered here but I think I found a favorite dress!  The I’m Late, I’m Late dress is absolutely gorgeous and I think I need it.  It is currently a pre-order item but it is definitely something I will be keeping my eye on.

If you find items you like and just have to add to your wardrobe, Shabby Apple is offering 10% off your entire order now until Sept. 14, 2012, all you have to do is enter the code:  favorite10 to get your discount.  So what are you waiting for??  Check them out now!  You can either click on the banner to the right of here —————————->  or click on this link to go to their page and start shopping.

(*I wrote this forever ago and just realized it never posted.  But since we are still in the early days of “back to school” I think it still fits*)

Hi Guys and Gals!!

I know, I know…  I said I was going to pull the plug on this blog.  But I just couldn’t do it!!  I feel like it is my baby and I just couldn’t end it after all.  During my little hiatus I realized that I actually enjoyed and missed blogging about my fashion thoughts.  So I’m back.

And just in time for What I Want Wednesday.  Today is a special “Back-to-School” edition.  Now, I realize that being in college I don’t necessarily need/get back to school clothes.  However, I was homeschooled until my sophomore year of high school and when you go to school in your pajamas it is really hard to convince the parentals to buy you new clothes.  So I am taking full advantage of that now.  Since I head back to school on Monday, here are some of the items I plan on adding to my back to school wardrobe.

The yellow sweater and denim shirt I found at Target and fell in love with them both!  I already have so many outfit ideas for both of them and they are a must add.

Khaki pants.  I don’t exactly love khaki pants but I don’t own a pair and I do think it is a good basic to have around.

The gold watch.  I have posted before about wanting a watch like this.  Originally I wanted a Michael Kors watch and the one posted above is Coach.  I probably cannot afford name brand right now, but I did find one that is an inexpensive version that I will be putting on my wrist very soon.

I also talked about my wanting of the Sperry shoes and cannot wait to purchase a pair of those.  As well as a pair of tennis shoes.  I don’t know that I will get those exact shoes (or even that brand) but I want a pair of tennis shoes that aren’t for working out.  I want a cute, fashionable pair to wear while running around on campus.

There are a few other items I want to get from the campus bookstore and if I get those, I will post pictures.  That’s it for today.  Good luck to everyone going back to school in the upcoming weeks!  What are you wearing for your first day??

…  To be on time for once!!  Geeze, I missed What I Want Wednesday again.  But in my defense, my baby brother was performing in his very first stand up comedy show yesterday so I was busy all day getting things done so I could go and watch him.

So I’m a little late.  It doesn’t change the fact that I do still want every single one of these items.  I found them all while shopping this past weekend.  I almost purchased everything I am about to post here, but decided to hold back and wait a few days before buying everything.

Without further ado…

I want this skirt.  I will have to try it on because I have never worn a mini skirt before and the thought is really intimidating.  Who knows, maybe I will put this skirt on and absolutely hate it, but when I see it laying on the display in store, I LOVE it!

I also want this top.  I was very, very close to buying this over the weekend.  It was on the clearance $5 rack but I had a sneaky feeling it wasn’t supposed to be.  So before standing in line forever and then finding out it wasn’t on sale, I asked an employee if they could check.  It wasn’t, I put it back to buy at a later date and have not stopped thinking of it since.

This was the original blazer that I saw in the store.  I thought it was super cute and that it would look great over a light, summery dress for brunch or another fun moment like that.  After looking at it more on the website though I’m not sure.  This would be another one I have to try on; I don’t usually like cropped tops on myself.  I do definitely want a blazer though…  Maybe I could do this one instead.

The final item I am wanting today is a pair of fabulous red sunglasses from Fossil.  I can’t find any pictures of them online, so I guess that is even more reason to just buy them, so I can show you all how cute they are.  (Sunglasses are almost as bad an obsession as watches for me…  Speaking of watches, I found a watch I want too!)

Because the Charlotte Russe website isn’t allowing me to post the pictures of the items like I wanted, I posted links instead…  But because Polyvore is awesome, I’m able to create a look involving all of the above mentioned pieces.

A couple housekeeping tidbits before I go.  I am planning on doing an update to the blog this weekend, so keep an eye out for that as well as my thoughts on the latest episode of Project Runway.
Also, we are only 5 followers away from a giveaway!  So keep an eye out for that as well, hopefully there will be news on that very soon.

I have been woefully absent from posting on here lately; I am just awful.  I feel like I have so much going on and so much to update but I will do it a little bit at a time, so that I can make up for the lack of posts with an abundance of posts to come.  I have some items ready for my “What I Want Wednesday,” I went shopping today and got some too cute items that I want to share, and I am sitting down right now to watch the season 10 premier of Project Runway and I am very excited to share my feelings towards that as well.

I will say that I am very excited for Project Runway!  I was just recently given a sewing machine and am hoping to maybe get some inspiration from watching the show and be able to make some pieces myself as well…  First I should probably learn how to even use the dang machine though!

So sorry for the absence but I promise I am back and ready to go!

Oh my goodness is it really Wednesday already?  So what do I want today?  Well there are a few things but today I am only writing about one.  It was actually featured in another post and the more I have looked at it, the more I want it.  I am in love with the neon top by SuperTrash.  When I looked it up online and saw the price I had a minor panic attack but decided that I am going to save up and treat myself.  Most of my wardrobe comes from a thrift store or Target (not saying I don’t love Target, because I do I think it is just time to broaden my horizons).  So for this week, I just want the neon top below.

What has been your biggest fashion indulgence?  Is spending this kind of money on a blouse absolutely ridiculous?

I have been reading a lot of fashion blogs lately and seeing that a lot of writers post “outfit of the day” entries.  This is something that I love reading but doing myself seems entirely too complicated and overwhelming.  When I look at my closet I don’t see the items I would need to be able to do this kind of an entry on my own blog.  But it is something I am going to aim for.  Starting this weekend, I plan on doing an outfit of the day once a week.  I think that is a good starting point to not be entirely overwhelmed but to also push myself and continue to grow in my fashion sense.

Is an outfit of the day something you do?  Are there any tips you would like to pass along for a newbie?

Back in the June issue of Instyle.com they had an article called What a Classic!  It lists out the 15 tried-and-true favorites needed to complete your summer wardrobe.  These articles are always hugely inspiring and helpful to me when trying to figure out what I need to have in my closet.  Listed below a5.re the 15 items.

1. Striped Sweater – Make sure the sweater you choose is lightweight in case of chilly evenings.

2.  White Shorts – Works best with a long-sleeve t-shirt and flats or a shirt and wedges.

3.  Ballet Flats – Bright colors are perfect for fall.

4.  Chambray Shirt – Wearing it open over a bathing suit and sarong equals instant, effortless cool.

5.  Floral Maxi-Dress – Perfect paired with wedges.

6.  Polo Shirt

7.  Menswear Hat (Have) – Laid back look perfect for summer (Side note:  I have a large sized head and usually have a hard time shopping for hats in the women’s sections but I have found that men’s hats are the perfect size!)

8.  White Jeans (Have) – Instyle says that cropped is the cutest but I think any length white pant looks fresh and perfect for summer.

9.  Peasant Dress – Perfect for travel and a day on the beach.

10.  Polka-Dot Bikini – I mean there was even a song written about this!  (Itsy, Bitsy, Teeny, Tiny, Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini)

11.  Crochet Dress – Great for lounging by the pool, going to the farmer’s market or playing at the park.

12.  Oversize Frames (Have) – I mentioned back here that I wanted thin framed sunnies to lessen my raccoon eyes but I still absolutely love a pair of oversize frames.

13.  White One-Piece – I don’t love one piece bathing suits but something about this does look very fresh and summery.

14.  Striped Tank (Have) – Pair it with a miniskirt or jean shorts for a light, fresh look.

15.  Embroidered Tunic

What are some of your wardrobe essentials?  Anything you would add or subtract to this list?  How many items do you already own?

Have you ever had a night out when you just feel kind of blah?  I had that night this past weekend.  I was getting ready to go out and just started feeling like nothing I did was going to make me look as good as I wanted.  I threw on an outfit, straightened my hair and did my makeup then left.  It didn’t help that the girls I went out with always look gorgeous in my opinion.  But what surprised me is that I was the one getting the compliments.  My friend posted some pictures online of us and everyone was telling me how cute I looked.  A girl stopped me in the bar to say she loved my shoes and ask where I got them.  I’ve got to say, getting feedback like this really makes a girl feel good about, not only herself, but her sense of fashion as well.

What’s the best fashion compliment you have received??
