Since I’ve been a bit MIA lately, I thought I would do a quick update about what’s been going on in my life recently.

1.  I’m now the proud owner of a pair of shiny adult braces…  Okay, I have a clear set so no shine but still.  Nothing says sexy like a mouth full of metal.  I’ve had them for a full two weeks now and I feel like I’m still getting used to them.  I was in pain for the first week and on a mostly liquids diet (and only manged to lose three pounds…  What the hell??!!).  I’m no longer in pain, but am still slow getting into foods I used to eat and constantly feel like there is too much going on in my mouth.  Only 102 more weeks to go!

2.  I start school in 17 days.  After going back and forth multiple times about whether or not I wanted to go back, I decided to go ahead, bite the bullet and do it.  I don’t really like my college (at all) and am still unsure as to what I want to be when I grow up…  Actually I know I want to be Donna (from the show Suits) when I grow up, but not sure what kind of major I need for that.  Here’s hoping school gets better and I can enjoy myself.

3.  Because I’m sticking with school I decided to stick with my job.  I try not to speak too openly about my feelings towards my job for a couple of reasons A)  I try to be grateful I have one in this economy and B) if anyone from my job were to read/hear my feelings, I would hate to risk losing said job.  However, I’m incredibly unhappy at this job.  There is a total lack of communication, no one that works there enjoys it, we are constantly working overtime and having our schedules changed at the last minute, oh and I break out in hives on a weekly (sometimes more often) basis thanks to this job.  Pretty sure that’s not a normal reaction.  But because it is third shift (another reason I dislike said job) it makes scheduling classes easier…  Attending not so much, but scheduling, yes.

4.  I’ve recently been shopping…  Like, a lot.  Maybe too much?  I keep telling myself I’m just preparing for fall and getting my wardrobe in order.  And I do make sure bills are paid first but I’m trying to do more adult things.  Things such as get a legitimate savings account going, not just $30 that I keep moving into my checking account.  Making a budget (and sticking to it).  And the big one, attempt to save for my own place.  I’m not talking buy a house, I’m nowhere near that, but a cute little apartment of my own would be beyond an amazing blessing.  Right now, I can’t so much afford that.  But I’m working towards it.  One step at a time.

I do believe that’s the majority of the updates from me.  Pretty sad that I’ve been gone so long and that’s it…  Hopefully my life picks up along with my school schedule in a few weeks.

Enjoy your weekend!  Go out and have a cold brewski 🙂

I’m hoping to watch the Victoria Secret fashion show tonight sometime, I have to do a lot of studying for my final exams on Monday though to that may not happen on the exact timeline I would like, but I will still get to it.

I’m writing right now because there are some changes that I would like to incorporate to this blog.  Yes, I will still talk about fashion, beauty and shoes because I still love these things and they are a huge part of my life.  But I would also like to add some more lifestyle to my blog.  What did I do today?  The pictures from the trip to the park.  DIY crafty items I try (emphasis on the word try).  My attempts at actually completing Pinterest items I have pinned.

So yes, there will still be fashion pieces on here, but I’m going to evolve the blog as well.  I hope you stick around to see where this blog goes and enjoy the ride with me!

I feel like I am always on here saying “it’s been so long, I’m still alive, blah blah blah…”  But unfortunately, once again that is true.  Between finals being next week and all the overtime I have been working because of the holiday, blogging has not exactly been high on my priorities lately.  In fact, the only reason I am writing right now is because I left work early with a migraine and have a few hours to kill before my next class…  6 hours in fact…  I may actually get some sleep today!!

Anyway.  My plans are to blog early next week (will be studying all weekend for those earlier mentioned finals) and what topic will I be mentioning???  The Victoria Secret Fashion Show of course!  I have not yet watched it, but it is sitting safe and sound in my DVR waiting for me to have a spare hour to tune in…  And then a few more spare hours to run to the gym after watching.  🙂  I’m very excited to watch, based on my Twitter feed, it sounds like a very good show!  Also based on my Twitter feed, there were a lot of gentlemen viewers this year…  Surprise, surprise.

So check in a bit later to see my thoughts and feel free to share yours?  Did you enjoy the show?  Is this a yearly tradition that you make of watching it like I do?

Rachel Zoe’s Shoe Collection

I was reading an interview with Britney Spears in my latest Lucky magazine and something she said struck me as odd.  She mentioned having a lot of shoes and when asked to elaborate on what she means by a lot she said, “like 50?”  Now, maybe she’s telling the truth but I have a hard time believing that.  After reading this, I got into my closet and counted my shoes.  I have 35 pairs in my closet at this second and that’s not counting all of my winter shoes up in the attic.  I’m guessing I have close to 45 pairs total.  Five less than Ms. Spears and I make a few dollars less than her a year.  I don’t know, maybe shoes aren’t her thing.  But they are definitely mine.  Always have been and (from the looks of things) always will be.

When I was younger and would get a new pair of shoes, we were impossible to separate.  I would literally go to sleep cuddling my new shoes.  My mom always said I was a young Imelda Marcos (she left behind at least 1220 pairs of shoes when she fled the Philippines during a 1986 uprising, you can go here to see more of her collection.).  Shoes make me happy.  You can use them to completely change an outfit, start conversations or put a pep in your step.  And it doesn’t matter if you are a size 2 or a size 22, you can find great shoes that will make you feel great about how you look that day.

Some of the shoes from the Imelda Marcos collection.

My mother just introduced me to the website ShoeDazzle.com.  I know she meant well but I see bad things happening.  They have you answer a few short questions and then provide you with a style profile based on your answers and provide you with shoe options you might like.  I have already found a pair of boots I may (most definitely) have to add to my collection.  The website offers free shipping and easy returns if the fit is wrong or if you just decide you don’t want those shoes after all.  Right now they are having a BOGO deal going on plus when I signed up, I received a 25% off first purchase coupon.  Meaning those boots I have my eye on are now only $26!!

My beautiful boots!!

In addition to that, I received a DSW flyer in the mail today (does anyone else just die once they walk into those doors??) and for a purchase of at least $48, I can get a free python tote.  I’ve never wanted a python tote before but when I saw that, I decided I had to have it.  So hopefully they’re still around after my next paycheck  🙂

Am I the only one obsessed with shoes?  Are there others like me out there?  Tell me all about your love affair and what you do to supplement your shoe wardrobe.

I love, love, love jewelry!  It is my favorite part of any outfit.  You can wear one dress and take it casual or formal depending on your jewelry and accessories.  No matter if you’ve gained 5 pounds indulging in holiday sweets or lost 10 pounds by working hard, your favorite necklace will still fit.  Because I love jewelry so much, I’ve always wanted to sell it some way.

However, I don’t have the time right now to devote to making my own jewelry (something I would like to try and accomplish in the future) and I don’t have the money to sign up as a consultant for Stella & Dot or Premier Designs.  Plus I don’t exactly have the time to devote to those either with parties, outreach, entering orders and all the other little aspects that add up in a small business of that type.  So I had put my jewelry business dreams on hold…  Until now!

I was recently introduced to Kitsy Lane.  An online community of jewelry boutiques owned by people like you and me.  After doing some research and discovering that this was a completely risk free way to sell jewelry to friends, family and complete strangers I decided to open my own boutique, Quiet Girl Boutique.

I came up with the name of my boutique based on the nickname I was given this past weekend while on my trip to South Carolina, Quiet Girl.  The more I thought about it, the more I loved it!  I am a quiet person and I don’t always have the words to say, however I have had many people start conversations based on the jewelry that I am wearing.  I like attention getting pieces that can give people a glimpse into your personality before they even introduce themselves to you.  So Quiet Girl Boutique was born so that you could “let your jewelry do the talking for the quiet girl in you.”

All pieces are hand-picked by yours truly and we have weekly flash sales that mark down the already discounted pieces.  The jewelry offered is from both up and coming designers as well as more well known designers.  The shop is still in the very beginning stages so will be changing and adding more inventory over the next days and weeks but I invite you to come, check it out and do a little shopping.

Hair.  It’s something that I have a very bittersweet relationship with.  On certain days I love my hair!  It’s shiny and laying just right.  Most days however, we aren’t exactly on the same page.  I cut it all off a little over a year ago and am now at that awkward stage where I can’t seem to do anything with it.  I have layers and so I can’t really braid my hair yet because halfway down hair starts sticking out all over.  My hair is too heavy and usually doesn’t hold a curl.  So I almost always straighten it and then end up throwing it into a ponytail.  I have considered getting extensions but then consider how much that would cost and think of how much I could do with that money instead and just stick with my own hair.  I have to keep reminding myself that my hair is growing, it’s not stuck and soon it will be at a good length.  What do you do when your hair is driving you nuts?  What are some tips I can do or hairstyles I can try?

You can tell from the pictures below my hair is growing (I also seem to wear a lot of blue) I just wish it would grow faster!

Have a beautiful hairday!

My hair cut right after cutting it about a year and a half ago.

My hair a month ago. Not the best quality picture, but you get it.

If you are like me (and most fashion bloggers) you probably enjoy a good shopping spree. I know spending the day at the mall and coming home with bags is a great way to spend an afternoon in my opinion but if I can support a good cause while I’m at it, that makes it that much more enjoyable! And this is a great month to do it. Yes, the month is just about over so get to shopping!!

Unless you have been living under a rock, you probably know that October is breast cancer awareness month. Whether you watch sports and see the NFL players sporting pink equipment, Dancing with the Stars and hear Tony Dovolani talk about wearing pink in honor of this month, or just walk through a grocery store with a very pink display in the middle of the aisle, you have probably seen the pink display in honor of this month.

So what are some of the things you can get that go towards breast cancer research? One of my favorite beauty stores, Ulta, has a ton of specials going on right now. When you check out, you can donate and get things back with your purchase. With a $1 donation, you are entered to win a beauty bag. Give $5 and receive a pink water tumbler or a fashion tote. $10 and you can get a pink kisses umbrella! For more information about the Ulta “donate with a kiss” program, head here.

Do you like jewelry? Stella & Dot is currently hosting a sale with all net proceeds going to fight for a cure. There are five items (two are currently sold out though) and all of them are absolutely adorable!! I especially love the Hope bracelet, below. Are you interested in checking out the items they have? Go here and see for yourself.

There are really so many places that you can find to shop for a cure, either in your local town or online. I did a quick google search for “shopping for a cause, october” and it came back with pages and pages of companies and products that all give back to the cause. So if you want to do a little guilt-free shopping and put some good karma out there, get to shopping. You only have a few days left!

Hey Guys!  I finally have the giveaway that I mentioned ready for you all.  Before I get into that, I want to apologize if this blog post isn’t completely coherent.  I’m watching game 5 of the NLDS baseball playoffs and my Cincinnati Reds are in a must-win situation and I’m a bit nervous while sitting here in bed watching.  Now that that’s out of the way.

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Jaimie from Bayleaf Communications about a book that she thought would interest me for my blog and she said we could do a giveaway as well.  After reading through the book, Daily Decadence, The Art of Sensual Living by Sherri Dobay, I decided that it was indeed something I was interested in giving away to one of you lucky readers.  See below for the description from the back of the book.

“Sherri Dobay has given wine a sex life.”  – Audrey Wells, Film Director & Screenwriter

“A kindred spirit who knows how to live life to the fullest.”  – Greg Gorman, Photographer & Author

Has your crazybusy life left you uninspired?  Get ready to sit back with a sunset and a class of your favorite wine.  Daily Decadence is here to take you on a sexy adventure full of romantic escapes, simple yet sumptuous meals, creative encounters, horse tales, moonlit escapades and enchanted revelations – all paired with Sherri Dobay’s sassy wine picks and evocative tasting notes.  Designed to inspire, created with love, Daily Decadence will remind you to stop for a moment and focus your awareness softly, opening your senses in all directions to take in your own dazzling world, renewed and enlivened.  She’s in your hands now.

My life has indeed become crazybusy and inspiration is something that I haven’t really had in abundance.  But reading through this book, I slowly felt a little of that inspiration creeping in.  I had never understood what people were talking about when they mention “rich language” until I read this.  Every word makes me feel like I am sitting in a candle-lit bubble bath with a bottle glass of wine in hand and not a worry in the world.  The book is a combination of a cookbook and daily journal.  Sherri sprinkles stories of her life experiences with recipes that sound delicious, yet simple to pull off.  I am definitely excited to try out some of the meals listed and even more excited to try the wine pairings listed with each recipe.  (I swear I don’t have a drinking problem!)

I think this is a book that anyone can enjoy and one that you yourself can enjoy by entering the giveaway here.  Just click on the link below to enter (WordPress doesn’t allow me to embed the giveaway on this page, so I have to add another step).
